Institute of Arts and Letters Academy of Music Workshops, Recitals and Special Events Private students of the Academy of Music participate in quarterly performance workshops, in which professional performance techniques are studied, and recitals, held in local libraries and professional recital halls. All students may also participate in special events, including competitions, festivals, performance presentations and field trips.  Watch us on You Tube The Benefits of Music Performance Performance preparation increases practice time. The study of material for performance improves comprehension and retention. The study of performance techniques enhances expression and fosters musicality. Performing builds confidence and self-esteem. Workshops and Recitals Performance workshops and public recitals are held at the end of each quarter: 1^st Quarter: March 2^nd Quarter: June 3^rd Quarter:  September 4^th Quarter:  December: Consecutive weekends before Christmas Recital Material and Repertoire 1^st Quarter: Standardized classical and method literature 2^nd Quarter: Standardized classical and method literature 3^rd Quarter: Popular repertoire of the students’ choice, in addition to regularly-assigned classical and method literature 4^th Quarter: Holiday theme, open for television media coverage. Students begin studying holiday repertoire in September and typically present four pieces and a reading or recitation at the recital. This recital includes a student gift exchange and a visit from Santa.
