Summer Classes Welcome Dance of This is a rapid dance, used to welcome an audience, in which the
audience is blessed with a sprinkling of flower petals at the conclusion of
the dance. The recording used for the
dance is an original of a gamelan in Hornbill Dance of This is an extremely rare and serene dance, which originated in
the longhouses in the remote villages of the Program Structure Each
class meets for a total of 12 hours, typically divided into two-hour class
periods. Students study dance
structure and performance during the first half of class, followed by theory,
history, music, costuming and costume-construction in the second half. The final class is a public dance recital
and reception, to which local news media is invited. Course Schedule Several three-week and six-week classes, typically beginning during the first week of summer vacation, are offered throughout the summer months.
